Spreading hope and dignity — one backpack at a time!

Packs of Hope is a non-profit humanitarian organization based in Arvada, Colorado run 100% by dedicated volunteers. We engage with the community to bring hope and dignity to children in foster care. Every day, children face the uncertainty of leaving their homes and familiar environments due to neglect, abuse, or other dangerous situations. Many are removed from their families quickly, forcing them to leave with little more than the clothes on their backs. It is our goal, with the help of the community, to provide these children with the resources they need during this traumatic time.

How we serve our community.

Providing backpacks to chidlren entering the foster care system

Packs of Hope provides backpacks filled with brand new clothing, toiletries, a book, and a comfort item for children entering the foster care system. These backpacks are designed to support both the children and their foster parents during the critical first 24 hours of the transition into foster care. Each month, Packs of Hope delivers over 400 backpacks to nine counties in the Denver area. The backpacks are available for children from newborns to 18 years old, and they are provided at no cost to the counties or the children.

Mentorship

We have created a mentorship program for youth with court-ordered community service. We provide a safe, inclusive space where they feel valued and understood. We are able to host six to eight youth twice a week. Our program offers not only an opportunity to fulfill service hours but also receive mentorship, tutoring, and resources to help them and their families heal and thrive.

“We had to remove a child due to substance use. This kiddo could not take any belongings with him due to his significant drug exposer. I was able to get a backpack that had clothes, toiletries, and a stuffed animal inside it. When we gave him his backpack he was really happy and couldn’t stop thanking us. Lucky for us his favorite character spider man was on one of the shirts! He was so happy and said ‘you got this just for me.’ He hugged me, and it melted my heart. This kiddo has had so many rough experiences, but this bag was able to bring him some light and make him feel seen and important. This meant the world to him and seeing him tear up in joy still makes me tear up thinking about it.

I just want to thank Packs of Hope for helping our kiddos who go though extreme trauma. This shows these kiddos that people care. These backpacks bring smiles to faces, and joy to their hearts. These children have lost so much and what you all give them truly makes an impact on their lives. Thank you!”

“This year we became a kinship family to our niece and nephew. We were already a family of 7 that sometimes struggled to make ends meet. These children entered our home right before school started and they came with only what they were wearing and a set of pajamas. We were grateful to hear about Packs of Hope and quickly contacted them for help. We were able to go to their location with the 2 kids and pick out school clothes, shoes, and school supplies. We were also able to pick out coats, pajamas, socks, underwear, and toiletries for them as well. This was such a blessing! These amazing gifts lifted a huge burden off our shoulders.

Thank you so much for this beautiful program and for the work you’re doing to help families like ours. We can’t thank you enough!”

Kinship Care Family

“I had a foster teenager who was removed due to physical abuse and neglect. The teenager did not have much of anything and some things the family refused to give to her. When I had to take her to foster care, she only had a small bag with a few dirty belongings. I was able to give her a Pack of Hope with clothing and toiletries, just for her. The teen stated, “you really do care.” The outfits fit her and she loved what she received. This teenager reported this made her day and it really made a difference when she was able to have something of her own when everything else was taken away. This teenager was in foster care when she was young as well. She stated, “people don’t really care about us teenagers, but I see you guys do”. Sometimes I see teenagers who feel as though no one will listen to them due to being an older youth, and this made her feel important and valued and built trust that opened the door to being able to talk with her. This bag helped her through a very tough situation while transitioning into foster care. She even wore the outfit provided to her to her court date. Thank you for helping us build trust with the children we work with and for providing items of need.”

“I’m a caseworker in Boulder County who works with teens, most of whom have been homeless for quite a while. When they come to us they come with almost nothing.

We’re grateful to have backpacks from Packs of Hope, filled with all the clothing and toiletries these young people need. Even though the clothes might not be “their style” sometimes, they’re always grateful to have clean clothes to wear to school or to bring to their foster homes. They’re also grateful to have a nice backpack to put their belongings into.

Thank you to each person that supports Packs of Hope and the work that they do. Thank you for helping to give children and young teens clothing and toiletries that give them dignity and a sense of being thought of, seen, and worthy. We’re so grateful!”
